2019 Notes From The Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On The Zig Zag Collection

Zig zag patterns are very primal and speak to us on many different levels. They refer to the rhythms found in sound waves,
human vocalization, heart beat rhythms and energy pulses like lightening. The peaks and valleys signify mountains, fire, and
the highs and lows on stock market charts.

This pattern motif is rooted in ancient theologies, philosophies, math and science. It reflects the physical nature of our
universe and represents mathmatical concepts like sin and cosine. The correlations with this pattern are vast and varied. Zig
zags have been used by many cultures for decoration in interior design, textile design and pottery.

We utilize zig zag pattern in our artwork because they emanate visual energy and deserve to be considered as a valid
direction for exploring the dynamics of expressive mark making, color theory and optical illusion. Our abstract expressions
reflect our inner vitality and understanding of abstract and concrete reality. These pieces provide insight into our inner most
human feelings about existence in a vast and amazing universe.
