Notes From The Artists Dennis Eavenson and Sharon Eavenson On The Plastic Collection / 2019

Our works in plastic explore the immense variety of forms and objects, and how our existence is shaped emotionally and
spiritually by this recent emergence of polymers on the stage of human history. Products made of plastic impact our daily
existense across the globe. The convenience of plastics in packaging dominates industries and consumer products from
food production and distribuition to medical procedures and supplies. It fills store shelves with objects used for construction,
home furnishings and entertainment. Scientific research and information technologies would come to a stand still without
plastic polymers. These usages contribute tremendously to human safety and well being. However, the flip side of the coin is
that plastic also daily pollutes our planet with millions of tons of non-biodegradable waste every year. This waste damages
countless ecosystems, ends up in landfills and devestates our oceans. As artists, recycling plastic into the production of
artwork is a way to address themes about process, construction, waste, waste disposal and destruction as aspects of modern
life. We aim to defy conventional attitudes concerning art and engage the viewer on many levels. These pieces prompt ideas
about discovery and hint at questions such as:

///1. " When is an object worthy of entering the arena of artwork?"
///2. "How do we define art in a modern world?"
///3. "When does a creative action prompt mental, spiritual and emotional responses that produce worth and value?"
