2019 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On Wood Grids 1

As a visual artist, I have a strong need to analyze and prescribe order and meaning to my self expressions. Grids provide a
basic system for organizing and presenting ideas. Grids are found in many other endeavors like science, architecture and
engineering. They prompt questions concerning human existence within the known universe. This artwork addresses ideas
about concrete reality and abstract perception. It speaks about order, containment, patterns and spatial arrangement. This
work directs the viewer to explore physical, abstract, mathematical, psychological and philosophical realities. The grid refers
to my constant need to define and order my experiences. The spontaneous irregular pattern of painted dots overlaying the
ridgid structure of the wood frame is a defiance revealing this futile attempt of measuring a non-order able existence.
